Each type of wood has its own unique characteristics,  burn time, heat output, and aroma. Some woods may produce more smoke or sparks than others. It is crucial to choose the appropriate type of firewood for your needs to ensure efficient & safe burning.

In South Africa, there are several types of fireplace wood. Although you can burn “braai wood” in fireplaces, it is not necessary as braai wood is generally more expensive.It would be a waste of money (your wife might get mad).

Softer wood will serve a braai better as they burn quicker, leaving you with the hot coals over which to cook your meat (you don’t want to wait for 3 hours before putting the meat on the braai). Hard wood hand burns longer and with a higher heat, making it suitable for burning in a fireplace.
